Sui prepares for 2025 with better speed, scaling, and decentralized tools
Sui, a Layer-1 blockchain developed by Mysten Labs, is laying the groundwork for a transformative 2025, according to co-founder Adeniyi Abiodun.
Building on a strong 2024 with achievements like sub-second transaction finality and growth in decentralized finance and gaming, Sui ( SUI ) is intensifying its focus on scalability, functionality, and developer-friendly tools.
At the heart of Sui’s updates is Mysticeti V2, according to Abiodun’s X post . Mysticeti V2 is an upgraded consensus mechanism aimed at streamlining transaction processing.
By reducing cryptographic operations and minimizing validator communication, Mysticeti V2 aims to deliver faster transactions and improved throughput.
Real-time improvements
Complementing this is Remora, a horizontal scaling solution that distributes validator workloads across multiple machines. Testing has demonstrated the capability to process hundreds of thousands of transactions per second, with Remora aiming to maintain low fees as the network scales.
Sui is also advancing decentralized applications with Programmable Peer-to-Peer Tunnels, an off-chain transaction system that eliminates latency and boosts throughput. This makes real-time applications like gaming and payments more practical.
Privacy enhancements are another area of focus. Sui is integrating zero-knowledge proofs in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University to strengthen privacy features.
Storage
On the storage front, Sui plans to launch Walrus in early 2025. Unlike traditional blockchain storage solutions, Walrus provides programmable, scalable storage directly tied to smart contracts. This functionality enables dApps to store large files, such as user-generated content or AI models.
For added security, Sui introduces SEAL, a framework that allows developers to set precise access conditions for stored data, ensuring both privacy and control.
Another key focus is connectivity. Sui is integrating SCION, a secure routing protocol designed to protect the network from internet vulnerabilities like Distributed Denial of Service attacks and BGP hijacks. This ensures that Sui’s validator network remains robust and reliable under high-demand scenarios.
Sui is rolling out new tools to enhance developer experiences. RPC 2.0, powered by GraphQL, simplifies data queries, while the AI-driven Bugdar tool identifies vulnerabilities in real time. Additionally, the Sui Move Prover enables developers to verify the safety of smart contracts without requiring extensive technical expertise.
