In March, President Trump signed an executive order creating a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, signaling intent to retain and possibly expand holdings. A bill in Congress proposes acquiring 1 million BTC over five years, without using taxpayer funds, to be held long-term for national reserves. In the future, the US can be one of the largest holders of Bitcoin. Collin Brown: Can XRP replace SWIFT once the lawsuit with the SEC is finally settled? Gracy Chen: SWIFT started out in the 1970s, while XRP was launched in 2012. The difference between both the innovations and the timeline between their birth and adoption is huge. XRP could become a faster, more efficient complement to SWIFT in certain use cases, but it’s unlikely to replace SWIFT entirely in the near term. XRP has strong potential to complement or disrupt parts of the traditional payment systems, especially in cross-border settlements. While SWIFT, is a 50-year-old messaging network used by over 11,000 financial institutions, XRP is very nascent and was built to beat the older mechanisms. If Ripple clears its legal hurdles with the SEC, adoption could accelerate, although it is unlikely that XRP will takeover SWIFT it’s possible that it could challenge its current monopoly and propose itself to become a new faster alternative source of global payment.
