CME to launch XRP futures with contracts worth 2,500 XRP
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Group announced on April 24 that it will launch XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) futures contracts on May 19, offering investors new trading options in the cryptocurrency market.
The contracts will be available in two sizes: micro contracts covering 2,500 XRP and standard contracts covering 50,000 XRP.
All futures contracts will be cash-settled, allowing investors to speculate on XRP price movements without owning the underlying asset.
Earlier in January 2025, CME had hinted at the launch of XRP futures but retracted the announcement, leaving market participants uncertain until now.
This move follows a growing trend of crypto-focused financial products entering US markets, signaling increasing institutional acceptance of cryptocurrencies.
In March, CME introduced Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) futures with standard contracts of 500 SOL and micro contracts of 25 SOL.
Meanwhile, in April, asset manager Canary Capital filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for a staked Tron (TRX) exchange-traded fund (ETF), which plans to hold spot TRX and stake part of it to earn a 4.5% yield.
Additionally, Crypto.com and the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) announced plans to launch an ETF tracking US crypto projects under the Truth.Fi brand, expected to begin trading later in 2025.
According to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, over 70 crypto ETF applications are currently pending SEC review, covering a wide range of assets from XRP and Litecoin (CRYPTO:LTC) to Dogecoin (CRYPTO:DOGE) and others.
“Everything from XRP, Litecoin, and Solana to Penguins, Doge, 2x Melania, and everything in between. Gonna be a wild year,” commented Balchunas on April 21.
At the time of reporting, the XRP price was $2.18.
