U.S. Secretary of State Announces Comprehensive Reorganization of the State Department
According to Jinse, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio announced on the 22nd that the State Department will implement a comprehensive reorganization plan to streamline personnel and reduce costs, in line with President Trump's "America First" foreign policy. In a statement that day, Rubio said that the U.S. is "facing significant global challenges" and the current State Department is "bloated with bureaucracy" and unable to fulfill its essential diplomatic mission in this new era of great power competition. The reorganization plan aims to "bring the State Department into the 21st century" to better advance America's core national interests. According to U.S. media reports, the first phase of the comprehensive State Department reorganization plan will involve cutting approximately 15% of employees within the U.S. and eliminating 132 offices. It is expected that around 700 positions will be cut in Washington, D.C., and some institutions related to democracy, human rights, and diversity will be shut down. Meanwhile, new institutions will be established, including a new department specifically to address so-called "emerging threats," focusing on areas such as cybersecurity and the proliferation of artificial intelligence.
