OpenAI is developing a new social network that promises to compete directly with Elon Musk's X. According to sources close to the project, the platform already has an internal prototype that integrates ChatGPT's image generation capabilities into a social feed, allowing users to share visual content created by artificial intelligence.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has been seeking outside feedback on the project, though it's not yet clear whether the social network will launch as a standalone app or be integrated into ChatGPT, which recently reached 400 million weekly users.
The move comes amid tensions between Altman and Musk. After an unsolicited offer from Musk to buy OpenAI for $97,4 billion, Altman responded: “No thanks, but we’ll buy Twitter for $9,74 billion if you want.”
In addition to the personal rivalry, OpenAI is looking to expand its database to train its artificial intelligence models. A social network of its own would allow the company to collect real-time data, similar to what Musk uses to train Grok and what Meta uses to develop Llama.
The move also puts OpenAI in direct competition with Meta, which is developing a social feed for its upcoming AI assistant app. When news broke about Meta’s ChatGPT competitor, Altman posted on X: “OK, maybe we’ll make a social app.”
