Trump may impose approximately 20% tariffs on the European Union, and there will be no exemptions or exceptions
The European Union predicts that the tariff rate for the entire EU in US President Trump's "reciprocal tariff" plan, set to be announced on April 2nd, will reach double digits. According to informed sources, the US plans to adopt a uniform tax rate against the EU rather than setting differentiated standards for member countries. This week, EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström predicted that Trump will impose about 20% tariffs on the EU next week. Moreover, the United States has not indicated any exemptions or exceptions. According to an official who first heard of negotiation briefings, Malmström warned American officials that imposing a 20% tariff on goods imported from Europe would be "devastating" for the EU. The level of U.S tariffs will exceed any stage since founding members of the European Union launched their common trade policy in late 1950s. Informed sources said negotiations have made no substantial progress and it is beyond power of European Union to prevent these tariffs from being implemented. Due to need for assessing specific details, retaliatory measures by European Union may be delayed.
