The U.S. Senate Committee hearing will be held on March 27, bringing Paul Atkins potentially one step closer to becoming the new cryptocurrency-friendly chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). President Trump nominated Atkins to lead the SEC on December 4, but his marriage to a billionaire family reportedly raised issues in financial disclosure, delaying his potential start date. While it is unclear whether the White House has submitted relevant documents to the Senate, Eleanor Mueller of Semafor stated in an X post on March 17 that Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee Chairman Tim Scott plans to hold a hearing on March 27 to review Atkins' qualifications. Mueller also said that the Senate Banking Committee plans to hold a bipartisan meeting about Atkins' nomination on March 21. According to Forbes report from December 14, 2024, Atkins' wife's family is associated with TAMKO Building Products LLC, a residential roofing tile manufacturer reported having revenues of $1.2 billion in 2023. Nearly four months have passed since Trump chose Atkins as head of SEC on December 4th and over two months since Trump took office January 20th; however delays in taking up position as SEC chair are not uncommon.
