Nearly 40% of wealthy Americans plan to invest in Bitcoin
A recent survey by Grayscale Investments reveals that 38% of high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) in the U.S., with assets exceeding $1 million, intend to include cryptocurrency in their portfolios.
Currently, 26% of these affluent investors already own crypto, a higher proportion than the general population’s average of 20%.
The study highlights differing motivations for crypto adoption across age groups.
Among wealthy investors over 50, 78% view Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) as an inflation hedge amid economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and a weakening U.S. dollar.
Conversely, younger investors see cryptocurrency as a normalised investment option, detached from macroeconomic concerns.
"This new data highlights the growing confidence among high-net-worth investors in crypto as a potential long-term investment opportunity," noted John Hoffman, Head of Distribution at Grayscale.
Despite the growing interest, nearly half of surveyed HNWIs remain skeptical about crypto’s utility beyond investment purposes.
This skepticism underscores a divide in the industry between those who see Bitcoin as a financial tool and those who question its broader technological innovation.
The survey also found that regulatory clarity is crucial for many wealthy investors.
Approximately 43% of respondents over 50 and 48% under 50 are waiting for additional policies before committing further funds to cryptocurrency.
Grayscale’s findings suggest that affluent investors are increasingly comfortable with digital assets following the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in early 2024.
These products have bolstered confidence by providing regulated access to crypto markets.
While interest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies continues to grow among wealthy Americans, the industry faces challenges in demonstrating broader use cases beyond financial speculation.
Future projects must balance investor demand for stability with innovation to expand crypto’s role in modern finance.
At the time of reporting, the Bitcoin (BTC) price was $81,998.77.
