Legal Expert Says This Will Happen to XRP Case Before April 16 Deadline

Prominent attorney Fred Rispoli has suggested that a resolution or a significant event could occur in the ongoing Ripple v. SEC lawsuit before Ripple’s April 16, 2025, filing deadline .

While no formal requirement dictates this timeline, Rispoli’s statement has fueled speculation that the case may soon reach a turning point. His remarks indicate that the SEC’s legal battle with Ripple may be approaching its final stages.

Although there is no formal reason requiring it, it is reasonable to speculate that the SEC v. Ripple case is resolved–or at least something significant happens–before Ripple's filing deadline of April 16, 2025.

Let's keep an eye on it…and hope.

Growing Signs of a Case Dismissal

The SEC’s recent actions in other cryptocurrency lawsuits and investigations suggest that its appeal against Ripple will be dismissed soon. The regulator has dismissed multiple lawsuits and investigations without any enforcement actions, confirming the new administration’s pro-crypto stance.

Additionally, former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci recently implied that the SEC might have already dropped its case against Ripple. During a podcast episode, Scaramucci included Ripple among companies that had seen cases against them withdrawn.

While Rispoli, Scaramucci, and many others believe both parties have settled behind the scenes, there has been no official confirmation from the SEC regarding the status of the lawsuit and the case remains in the appeals process.

Ex-SEC Official Observes Signs of Imminent Appeal Withdrawal

John Reed Stark, former SEC enforcement chief, has observed developments suggesting that the SEC may reconsider its appeal against Ripple . Stark noted that the SEC has been scaling back efforts to classify digital assets as securities, exemplified by its decision to drop appeals concerning certain crypto firms.

Additionally, internal restructuring within the SEC, including the rebranding of its crypto enforcement unit to the “cyber unit,” indicates a potential shift in enforcement priorities.

Possible Resolution Timelines

Attorney Jeremy Hogan, another prominent figure in the XRP community, has offered his perspective on the potential resolution timeline of the Ripple-SEC case. Hogan suggests an earlier resolution is possible, estimating that the case might conclude by May or the first half of April 2025.

His April prediction correlates with Rispoli’s April 16 deadline. Ripple must file its opening brief in its cross-appeal against the SEC by that date, and the SEC may be dragging its feet on a settlement because the date is still far.

While Rispoli and many others hope for a dismissal, Jeremy Hogan recently explained why the Ripple lawsuit is too complicated for this outcome , because of the $125 million ruling currently waiting to be resolved. As the case moves toward a potential resolution, market participants will closely monitor the market to see how the digital asset reacts.
