U.S. Congressman Emmer calls for stablecoin legislation against CBDC
US Congressman Tom Emmer called for prioritizing legislation to support stablecoins at the US House Financial Services Committee hearing on March 11, while also stating that Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDC) pose a threat to American values.
Emmer reintroduced the "CBDC Non-Surveillance Act" in the House on March 6, which aims to prevent future governments from launching a US CBDC without explicit approval from Congress. He stated, "CBDC technology is fundamentally non-American," and warned that allowing non-elected bureaucrats to issue CBDCs "could undermine the American way of life."
