Arkham tool tracks influencers' crypto holdings for transparency
Arkham Intelligence has introduced a new feature that allows users to track the cryptocurrency holdings of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) on X (formerly Twitter), raising concerns about transparency in influencer-backed tokens.
The “KOL Label,” announced in a recent post, applies to influencers with over 100,000 followers. According to Arkham, “Influencers with more than 100K+ followers on Twitter/X are now tagged on Arkham with a new label: Key Opinion Leader.”
This feature enables investors to monitor whether influencers genuinely support the tokens they promote or if their endorsements are purely for financial gain.
The move has sparked debate within the crypto community, particularly regarding meme coins and potential pump-and-dump schemes.
A recent report revealed that 76% of influencer-backed tokens fail, with their value dropping by more than 90% within three months. It also found that influencers can earn up to $399 per promotional tweet, incentivising them to promote tokens regardless of their viability.
Blockchain investigator ZachXBT previously exposed 16 influencers engaged in coordinated pump-and-dump schemes, highlighting the risks for retail investors.
With Arkham’s new tool, investors can verify if influencers hold the tokens they endorse or quickly sell them after promotion. “Interesting move—transparency meets influence,” one X user commented.
Tron founder Justin Sun emphasized the importance of fundamentals and due diligence when investing in meme coins.
“I will check on the real social engagement. Are those likes real, or it’s just general bullshit? Do they have lots of influence, and the people really believe them?” he stated.
As influencer-driven token promotions continue to shape the market, Arkham’s tracking feature could provide investors with greater insight into endorsement credibility and trading activity.
