Polygon CEO sees revolution in real estate
Polygon (CRYPTO:MATIC) CEO Mark Boiron believes that real-world asset (RWA) tokenisation can transform real estate investment by addressing key challenges such as illiquidity, high costs, and reliance on intermediaries.
Boiron explained that tokenising real estate could eliminate unnecessary intermediaries, reducing transaction costs.
Fractional ownership and secondary market trading of tokenised properties would improve liquidity and increase the velocity of money.
"The thing you really want is the ability to eliminate the illiquidity discount on real estate," Boiron said, emphasising that real estate could become more valuable if it were more liquid.
One example is Lumia Towers, a $220 million commercial real estate project in Istanbul, Turkey, which used Polygon’s technology for tokenisation.
Boiron believes real estate will eventually move onchain, but regulatory approval remains a key factor.
In the United States, Quarter offers tokenised alternatives to debt-based mortgages by allowing both property investors and homebuyers to hold fractional equity rights.
In the European Union, Blocksquare introduced a real estate tokenisation framework in February 2025 to facilitate onchain equity transfers.
Meanwhile, in the UAE, developers are exploring tokenisation as an alternative financing method, with Tether partnering with Reelly Tech in February 2025 to expand the use of USDT (CRYPTO:USDT) in real estate transactions.
Tokenisation offers multiple benefits, including fractional ownership, lower transaction costs, and reduced processing times by removing intermediaries.
Polygon’s technology enhances liquidity and global accessibility, enabling direct transactions between buyers and sellers while maintaining regulatory compliance through automated mechanisms.
