CME Group Announces Launch of Solana Futures on March 17
- Solana Futures Launch March 17
- Responding to the growing demand for regulated crypto products
- Part of an expanded portfolio that includes Bitcoin and Ether
Global derivatives marketplace CME Group has revealed that starting March 17, subject to regulatory approval, it will offer Solana (SOL) futures. This decision comes on the heels of previously circulated rumors about the launch of XRP and Solana futures, which had been erroneously published on an exchange preparation page, indicating an initial date of February 10.
At the time, CME representatives clarified that the leak was a mistake and that, up until that point, there had been no resolutions regarding the inclusion of XRP or SOL in its futures portfolio.
Giovanni Vicioso, Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products at CME Group, said: “With the launch of our new SOL futures contracts, we are responding to growing client demand for a broader suite of regulated products to manage cryptocurrency price risk.”
The new contracts will be cash-settled and priced based on the CME CF Solana-Dollar Reference Rate, which is set daily at 16:00 p.m. London time. This adds to CME’s existing suite of crypto products, which includes Bitcoin futures, Ether futures and options.
According to internal data from CME Group, the average daily volume of contracts traded this year reached 202.000, representing a 73% increase from the previous period. In addition, the average open interest grew by 55% to 243.600 contracts, with more than 11.300 distinct accounts actively trading.
Teddy Fusaro, President of Bitwise Asset Management, Inc., commented on the launch: “The launch of SOL futures is a significant milestone in the continued maturation of the cryptocurrency market. This announcement underscores CME Group’s commitment and leadership in providing institutional investors and active traders with advanced tools for trading and risk management.”
