After a promising start to the year, driven by positive expectations with the inauguration of Donald Trump and his speech in favor of cryptocurrencies, the Bitcoin is now facing a turbulent phase. This Thursday, February 27, the cryptocurrency registered a 3% drop, trading above US$ 86 thousand.

The previous night was even more critical, with the asset reaching its lowest price this year, US$ 82.455. This sequence of falls, which totaled 12.6% in just three days, represents the worst performance since the bankruptcy of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX, in November 2022, according to market data.

At the time of publication, the price of Bitcoin was quoted at US$ 86.473,80 with a decrease of 2.5% in the last 24 hours, equivalent to approximately R$ 504,179.96 BRL and € 82.510,82 EUR. In the last seven days, BTC showed a decrease of 11.2% in its value.

Santiment platform analysts highlighted the expectation of retail traders to buy cryptocurrencies on the dip as the market continues to bleed.

“Prices are moving in the opposite direction to crowd expectations. And with retail traders eager to buy crypto dips in recent days, we continue to see prices bleed. Typically, we would see a recovery once retailers are no longer interested in buying dips.”

Several factors are contributing to this pessimistic outlook for the cryptocurrency market. Among them are: fears about inflation in the United States, concerns about Donald Trump's possible increase in tariffs, the slowdown in enthusiasm around meme coins, and the recent R$8 billion hack on the Bybit exchange.

Bitcoin is not alone in this decline. Other major cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum (ETH), XRP, BNB, and Cardano (ADA) have also recorded significant losses. However, some exceptions such as Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX), Litecoin (LTC), Hedera (HBAR), Polkadot (DOT) have managed to stand out with notable gains.

Ethereum is trading at $2.351,65 with a 4.5% decline in its price. XRP is trading at $2,24 with a 1.7% decline. Cardano is trading at $0,6743 after recording a 0.9% decline. Solana is trading at $1.6 with a 140,42% increase. Shiba Inu is trading at $3 with a 0,00001474% increase.

Amid this scenario of uncertainty, the cryptocurrency market remains attentive to upcoming developments, seeking to understand whether this downward trend will persist or whether Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will be able to recover.
