Pump.fun X Account Hacked: Fake $PUMP Token Leaked
On Wednesday morning, Pump.fun’s official account on the X platform (Twitter) was hacked. Cybercriminals used this access to promote a fraudulent governance token called “$PUMP”.
In a prominent tweet, the hackers described “$PUMP” as the “OFFICIAL pump.fun GOVERNANCE token,” and offered rewards for “OG DEGENS.” The post also included a contract address, raising suspicions among users and vigilant members of the crypto community.
Several crypto insiders quickly identified and reported the suspicious nature of the ad. It wasn’t long before both the fake token ad and the contract address were deleted from the X platform.
The Pump.fun team was quick to confirm the incident, warning all users to completely ignore the fraudulent ad. In the meantime, the platform was working to regain control of the compromised account and begin a detailed investigation into the incident.

Renowned blockchain researcher ZachXBT has explored the available evidence on the blockchain, finding possible connections between the Pump.fun account hack and other security incidents that have impacted Jupiter DAO and the DogWifCoin account in the past. According to ZachXBT, the fault may not lie with the Pump.fun or Jupiter DAO teams. He suspects that the attacks may have been facilitated by social engineering targeting X employees using fraudulent documents and emails, or even by exploiting a vulnerability in the platform.
