Ethereum researchers outline scaling 'endgame' in Reddit AMA
Ethereum Foundation (EF) researchers, including Vitalik Buterin, Justin Drake, and Dankrad Feist, addressed questions about scaling, Layer 1 (L1) revenue, and security in a recent Reddit "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) session.
The discussion highlighted the upcoming Pectra upgrade, the largest technological advancement since the Dencun fork.
The Pectra update's initial phase is expected to roll out soon.
The EF's security team initiated a $2 million bug bounty program to test the hard fork until March 24.
Researchers emphasised reclaiming ground for the base layer network and enhancing its economic position by reclaiming revenue from Layer 2s (L2s) and promoting "native rollups."
Buterin stressed the importance of Ethereum's (CRYPTO:ETH) neutrality.
Pectra will double the number of "blob" transactions per block, aiming to reduce costs for L2s.
While some advocate raising the blob "base fee," EF researchers generally consider this shortsighted.
Drake and Feist supported scaling Ethereum's native "data availability."
Drake optimistically projected that Ethereum could settle 10 million transactions per second in approximately 10 years, potentially generating $1 billion in daily revenue.
Future scaling initiatives, such as danksharding, will balance data availability (DA) supply and demand while ensuring sustained L1 revenue.
The researchers also discussed the "endgame" of Ethereum scaling and the concept of native rollups, which aim to scale Ethereum's core.
Drake mentioned interest from "top rollups" like Arbitrum (CRYPTO:ARB), Base, Optimism (CRYPTO:OP), and Scroll (CRYPTO:SCR) in "becoming native."
Ansgar Dietrichs noted that the rollup-centric roadmap has spurred significant technological innovation.
Ethereum (ETH) is currently priced at $2,492.09.
