American law enforcement officers have seized cryptocurrency stolen in April 2021 from the closed decentralized service Uranium Finance.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York and the Department of Homeland Security have seized approximately $31 million in digital assets stolen in the Uranium Finance hack, law enforcement officials announced on February 24.
DeFi Uranium Finance, which is fork decentralized exchange Uniswap , was launched on April 1, 2021. After 27 days, the platform was hacked, and its users lost various digital assets worth $50 million, including BNB (BNB), bitcoins, and stablecoins Binance USD (BUSD).
The attackers responsible for the Uranium Finance attack converted some of the stolen coins into Ethereum and then washed ETH using the Tornado Cash mixer. Therefore, it can be assumed that American law enforcement officers seized coins that the criminals did not have time to legalize. Considering the fact that cryptocurrencies have risen in price significantly since April 2021, it is obvious that hackers have already laundered the lion's share of digital assets.
Law enforcement officials asked all Uranium Finance clients who suffered from the hack DeFi , contact the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York by sending an email to [email protected] . Apparently, the security forces are going to return the cryptocurrency to the victims of cybercriminals in order to at least partially compensate for the losses they incurred.
