The Ethereum Foundation announced The company has made a significant change to its leadership structure: Aya Miyaguchi, who has served as the organization’s chief executive officer, has been promoted to president. The transition, revealed in a blog post Tuesday, is part of a leadership development plan that has been in the works over the past year.
As chairman, Miyaguchi will focus on strengthening institutional alliances and broadening the horizons of the Ethereum Foundation’s organizational vision. In his own words, “Ethereum belongs to everyone because it belongs to no one. Our permissionless approach not only embraces disagreement, but thrives on it.”
Miyaguchi emphasized that the Foundation does not seek to dominate every aspect of Ethereum, but rather to uphold the core values that form the backbone of the network. “We are responsible for ensuring that Ethereum remains resilient — both as a network and as an ecosystem that encompasses people, ideas, and values,” she said.
During her seven years at the Foundation, Miyaguchi has led important initiatives that include diversifying clients, supporting RD interoperability, and organizing developer conference calls. She particularly highlights Ethereum’s transition to Proof-of-Stake, known as “the Merge,” as an example of inclusive and decentralized leadership.
When he began discussions about moving to the presidency with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, his goal was to perpetuate and expand the platform’s unique culture and facilitate engagement with the broader global community.
Vitalik Buterin also spoke out, acknowledging Miyaguchi’s significant contribution and celebrating his new position. The context of Miyaguchi’s promotion comes at a time of restructuring of the Foundation’s leadership, driven by criticism over resource management and increasing pressures on leadership.
Despite occasional criticism from members of the Ethereum community who suggested changes in leadership, Buterin supported Miyaguchi, repudiating negative behavior and reaffirming his authority over the Foundation's strategic decisions.
