Hyperliquid Revolutionizes Its Ecosystem with Mainnet Launch of HyperEVM

A Hyperliquid Hyperliquid Inc. has taken a significant step toward the future of decentralized finance with the launch of HyperEVM on its mainnet. The Hyper Foundation describes this initiative as a milestone that “brings general-purpose programmability” to the Hyperliquid ecosystem.

“HyperEVM is live. This is a major step towards our vision of housing all finance, bringing general-purpose programmability to Hyperliquid’s high-performance financial system. The initial mainnet launch of HyperEVM includes: 1. HyperEVM blocks built as part of L1 execution, inheriting all the security of HyperBFT consensus. 2. Spot transfers between native HYPE and HyperEVM HYPE. As a reminder, HYPE is the native gas token on HyperEVM. 3. A canonical WHYPE system contract deployed on 0x555…5 for defi applications.”

HyperEVM, a key component of the system, is designed to integrate the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) directly into Hyperliquid’s Layer 1 blockchain. This integration enables developers to run Ethereum-compatible smart contracts, enjoying optimized performance and opening up a range of new possibilities.

The Hyper Foundation announced today, February 18, that the initial mainnet launch of HyperEVM includes block creation as part of Layer 1 execution, which aims to inherit “the full security of the HyperBFT consensus.”

With the launch of HyperEVM, spot transfers between the native token HYPE and HyperEVM HYPE also become a reality. HYPE, in addition to being the native token of the Hyperliquid ecosystem, also assumes the role of gas token within HyperEVM, powering transactions and operations on the network.

“Native transfers and general ERC20 precompiles will be enabled in a future network upgrade. Any ongoing feedback for these features on testnet is greatly appreciated. While these features will be implemented on testnet, mainnet releases are staggered for minimal disruption to existing users on L1. HyperEVM is composable with L1 state without impacting the low-latency trading experience of existing users.” highlighted .

With HyperEVM, Hyperliquid not only improves the user experience, but also contributes to the growth and maturity of the blockchain ecosystem as a whole. Interoperability with EVM allows existing Ethereum projects to easily migrate to Hyperliquid, taking advantage of its high-performance infrastructure.
