Polkadot Academy to guide policymakers on Web3 in Zug
The Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA) is launching its first educational course tailored for policymakers, aiming to provide lawmakers with a deeper understanding of blockchain technology and Web3.
The three-day "Blockchain Basics for Policymakers" course will take place in Zug, Switzerland, from April 6 to April 8, 2025.
A delegation of UK Members of Parliament (MPs) from various political parties will attend the inaugural course.
Lisa Cameron, founder of the UKUS Crypto Alliance and a former MP, will lead the delegation.
Cameron believes this course comes at a crucial time for the UK crypto sector.
"Given the prominent role that blockchain technology is poised to play in the UK’s tech sector, it is essential that policymakers are equipped with the knowledge to make informed decisions," Cameron stated.
She also noted that the PBA's inaugural course offers a valuable opportunity for MPs to gain firsthand insights into the real-world applications of Web3.
The PBA's initiative aims to bridge the knowledge gap among regulators, ensuring they are well-equipped to make informed policy decisions regarding the rapidly evolving crypto industry.
Chrissy Hill, the chief legal officer and interim chief operating officer at Parity Technologies, emphasises the crucial role of policymakers in shaping the future of blockchain.
"Policymakers play a crucial role in shaping the future of blockchain, yet have empirically lacked access to structured education on its technical and regulatory foundations," Hill stated.
She added that the PBA is committed to ensuring that decision-makers have the resources they need to craft practical policies that foster innovation while maintaining safeguards.
At the time of reporting, the Polkadot (DOT) price was $4.85.
