In two speeches last Friday, Republican Federal Reserve directors Michelle Bowman and Christopher Waller both expressed a more open attitude towards digital assets and their future in the financial system. Their remarks are notable because:

Trump may choose one of them to replace Michael Barr as the next vice chairman for supervision (responsible for overseeing regulation and how the Fed interacts with banks and cryptocurrencies);
They represent a shift in tone and attitude, as they previously voted in favor of policies that make it harder for banks to participate in cryptocurrency. Both also voted against applications from custodian banks to become members of the Fed."
