Adin Ross and FaZe Banks plan cryptocurrency-driven GTA 6 server
Adin Ross and Richard “FaZe Banks” Bengtson have revealed plans to create a cryptocurrency-powered server for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6).
The two influencers, well-known in the gaming and streaming communities, shared their ambitions during a livestream, stating they aim to integrate a custom digital token into the game’s in-game economy.
"When GTA 6 drops, me and Ricky are going to make the biggest server together," Ross said, promising a fully crypto-driven server.
“It’s going to change the game,” he added, with Banks mentioning that the server would run on “a newly-made coin,” and that they would invest significant funds into its development.
The pair’s plan focuses on creating a blockchain-based economy within the game.
However, this vision could face challenges due to Rockstar Games’ previous stance against cryptocurrency integration.
In 2022, Rockstar Games released a statement prohibiting the use of blockchain-based assets in player-run servers for GTA Online and Red Dead Online.
This policy led to the shutdown of several community-run servers, including The Trenches, a server backed by rapper Lil Durk that featured NFTs.
Despite these restrictions, there are rumors that Rockstar might reconsider its position for GTA 6, potentially introducing crypto-based rewards or payment options, although no official details have been confirmed.
Interestingly, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, has shown interest in blockchain technology, notably through its acquisition of Zynga in 2022.
At the time, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick mentioned exploring “Web3 opportunities” with Zynga, but no direct link to the Grand Theft Auto franchise has been made.
The feasibility of Ross and Banks’ crypto-powered server will largely depend on Rockstar’s policies, as the gaming community eagerly awaits the release of GTA 6 later this year.
