Recently, DarKFi released an alpha version of their app, which has been in development by a community of coders, artists, and technologists for years. DarkFi is a new privacy-focused crypto project led by Amir Taaki, an early Bitcoin developer. The app is a fully anonymous Internet relay chat (IRC) but Taaki envisions it evolving into a broader product suite.
Taaki mentioned that the app has many features already in place, such as an anonymous decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), a wallet, and a blockchain. These components are operational but not yet fully integrated into a product.
The app is built from scratch and features a unique user interface designed by Taaki and his team. It operates over Tor and allows for peer-to-peer messaging without any need for registration or identity, ensuring maximum anonymity.
The launch of DarkFi comes at a challenging time for privacy advocates in the crypto space. Taaki, who has a history of fighting for freedom, expressed disappointment in how the crypto industry has evolved. He believes that cryptocurrency should help bypass censorship, but it has become institutionalized and lacks the necessary anonymity to effect change.
Taaki respects Ethereum’s technology but argues that there should be a stronger focus on specific use cases. He criticizes current consumer tech, particularly Signal Messenger, for its uninspired design. He aims to create a functional and user-friendly app with DarkFi, ensuring it is accessible to everyone, not just tech-savvy individuals.
While the alpha version of DarkFi is not fully polished and may have bugs, Taaki believes it is important to release it to the public. He emphasizes that the goal is to create a product that works seamlessly across various platforms, including Android, iPhone, Mac, Windows, and Linux. Taaki is committed to building technology that empowers users and enhances their freedom.
