Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev gets nod for conditional release from prison to work on appeal
Quick Take Pertsev announced on X that he’s set to be freed from pretrial detention on Friday in the Netherlands under the condition of electronic monitoring. The crypto mixer developer was sentenced to 64 months in prison by a Dutch court for facilitating money laundering through Tornado Cash.
Alexey Pertsev, a developer of Tornado Cash, said he would be released from pretrial detention on Friday to work on his appeal.
Pertsev, who has been accused of money laundering charges in the Netherlands, wrote on X today that a Dutch court suspended his pretrial detention under the condition of electronic monitoring.
“Dear Friends, on Friday 7 February at 10 am I will be free! It is not real freedom, but it is better than prison,” Pertsev said in his post. “This will give me a chance to work on my appeal and fight for justice.”
Last year, the Tornado Cash developer was sentenced to 64 months in prison by a Dutch court for facilitating the laundering of $1.2 billion in crypto through the Tornado Cash mixer between July 2019 and August 2022. Pertsev has appealed the conviction .
