Potential Bitcoin Supply Squeeze: 4.85M BTC Exits Exchanges
Exploring the Potential Market Impact of Long and Short-Term Accumulation Trends in BTC
Key Points
- Bitcoin is experiencing a strong accumulation trend, with nearly 5M BTC leaving exchanges since 2020.
- Decreased selling pressure and supply squeeze could potentially trigger a significant price rally for Bitcoin.
Bitcoin, also known as BTC , is currently experiencing a strong accumulation trend. This trend persists despite the ongoing fluctuations in its price, which has been oscillating between $91k and $105k.
Joao Wedson, the founder of the crypto analytics firm Alphractal, has noted that almost 5M BTC has been withdrawn from exchanges since 2020. This trend highlights a robust ‘holding’ strategy among investors, signifying that Bitcoin is becoming a more desirable asset.
Impact on Bitcoin’s Price
The record outflows from exchanges suggest that there is a decreasing amount of BTC available for sale on centralized exchanges. This supply squeeze, coupled with low selling pressure, could potentially trigger a significant price rally for Bitcoin.
Crypto analytics firm IntoTheBlock has also observed that exchange flows have been negative for the past seven trading days. Over the same period, Bitcoin’s price has dropped by over 7%, from $109k to $97k. However, it has since rebounded to $100k, indicating strong bids at lower prices.
Decreased Selling Pressure on Binance
Another sign of potential price rally is the decreased selling pressure on Binance . CryptoQuant, another analytics firm, noted that the taker sell volume on Binance has dropped significantly over the past week. This indicates short-term weakness amongst short-sellers and suggests that buyers may soon step in, potentially leading to a new upward wave.
However, not everyone agrees with this optimistic outlook. Arthur Hayes, the co-founder of BitMEX, predicts a potential 30% drop to $70k-$75k in the near term. Despite this, he still expects a rally to $250k by the end of the year.
