TON plans $72M upgrades with new payment features
The Open Network (TON) has outlined its roadmap for the first half of 2025, focusing on blockchain infrastructure improvements and community collaboration.
The roadmap includes a mainnet upgrade called "Accelerator," which aims to enhance stability, efficiency, and scalability.
Other updates include new tools for validators, revamped APIs, and a Payment Network Layer 2 release.
“The TON Core team is bringing BIG updates in H1 2025! Here’s a sneak peek: Huge ‘Accelerator’ Kernel update on Mainnet, new tools for validators, revamped Toncenter API… and more,” TON announced these updates on X.
The network is also collaborating with community projects like DeDust and MyTonWallet to strengthen developer engagement.
TON's renewed partnership with Telegram is another key development.
Telegram had previously severed ties with TON in 2020 due to regulatory challenges.
However, the current regulatory environment has allowed the two entities to re-establish their relationship.
Despite these advancements, TON faces challenges from declining revenues in its GameFi sector.
Tap-to-earn games, once a significant revenue source, have seen reduced activity.
This decline has pushed TON to explore alternative revenue streams through sidechain research and other initiatives.
Toncoin (CRYPTO:TON), the network's native token, has experienced price fluctuations in recent months.
After a brief recovery in December 2024, its value has steadily declined throughout January 2025.
The roadmap emphasizes quality-of-life upgrades for core functions while addressing financial challenges.
TON is leveraging its partnership with Telegram and favorable regulatory conditions to position itself for growth.
At the time of reporting, the Toncoin (TON) price was $4.98.
