According to a report from Cointelegraph on January 27th, the Brazilian National Data Protection Agency (ANPD) has ordered Tools for Humanity (TFH), the operator of the iris scanning digital identity project World Network (formerly known as Worldcoin), to stop providing services to Brazilian citizens from January 25th. ANPD believes that using cryptocurrency as compensation for collecting sensitive biometric data may affect the validity of user consent. According to Brazilian law, consent for processing sensitive personal data must be free, informed, explicit, and specific to the purpose. The agency also expressed concerns about the sensitive nature of biometric data, the irreversibility of data collection, and the inability to delete data once it has been provided.
