ZachXBT Helps US Government Recover $20 Million in Cryptocurrency, But Debate Over Compensation Heats Up
Amid a crypto landscape that is often plagued by scams and hacks, blockchain investigator ZachXBT stands out. It recently emerged that ZachXBT played a crucial role in recovering $20 million in stolen cryptocurrency from the U.S. government. The revelation, made during a chat on the X platform, has reignited the debate over fair compensation for independent investigators who dedicate their time and resources to fighting crimes in the cryptocurrency space.
ZachXBT’s statement came in response to a comment describing him as one of the most active figures in the crypto space, given the growing wave of scams. “The busiest person in crypto for the next 4 years will be @zachxbt. Hope you get paid well bro,” wrote one community member on X. Responding, the researcher noted: “One of my biggest regrets here is not prioritizing making money. Doesn’t help that I have poor business sense.”
He also shared that during an incident where the US government was targeted by an attack that resulted in the loss of US$20 million , the investigator assisted in the recovery of a significant portion of these funds. Surprisingly, ZachXBT added that he did not receive any financial compensation for this collaboration, emphasizing that this is a recurring situation in his work.
“When the US government was hacked for $20 million a few months ago, I helped recover a significant amount of those funds. I didn’t receive any reward for that. I just have a lot of examples like that,” stated when sharing a screenshot about the topic.

ZachXBT’s industry-wide investigative work has been instrumental in exposing large-scale scams and holding criminals accountable. His investigations have led to the arrest of hackers involved in the theft of $243 million worth of cryptocurrency. In addition, by tracking blockchain transactions, the expert has provided authorities with crucial information to identify and apprehend those responsible. In his investigations, ZachXBT has also dismantled complex schemes, such as fraudulent memecoin promotions and traders operating multiple wallets to defraud investors.
