US Media: The scale of protests and boycotts triggered by Trump's inauguration will be unprecedented
According to NBC News, Trump's first inauguration sparked street riots in Washington and triggered protests by millions of people worldwide, including what is estimated to be the largest single-day protest in American history.
This year, before Trump's second inauguration ceremony on Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday, thousands are expected to participate in commemorative events and demonstrations against Trump. However, the anticipated number will be far less than eight years ago. Even celebrities may watch from outside the venue. Companies that previously formed an "Unrest Alliance" with protesters have donated to Trump's inaugural committee and sent their CEOs to attend the ceremony.
Fewer Democrats were absent from this inauguration of Trump than last time - fewer than 60 - and they did not call their absence a boycott but for other unrelated reasons. For example, former Speaker of the House Pelosi said she had just undergone surgery and needed recovery time.
