Larva Labs, the digital asset incubation studio and the team behind the globally acknowledged CryptoPunks non-fungible token collection, has partnered with other leading industry digital artists to launch a new non-fungible token collection. The Cryptopunks NFT creator and top NFT artists anticipated raising funds to help victims of the devastating wildfires that have impacted Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Wildfires Explained
In a January 17 blog post, mmERCH, a blockchain-enabled web3 startup, confirmed that it has collaborated with seven globally acclaimed digital artists to launch a new non-fungible token collection. This initiative is in response to the devastating wildfires that have impacted Los Angeles, United States. All funds raised from the NFT presale will be donated to Baby2Baby relief efforts.
The wildfires started earlier this month, affecting the Los Angeles metropolitan Area and its surrounding regions. As of January 17, 2025, the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire remain, both being the largest fire in history. Although much remains unknown about the origins of the fire, at least 25 people have been killed, decimated entire neighbourhoods and forced tens of thousands of residents from their homes.
Forecasters and scientists have opined that the wildfires might have been caused by the recent drought conditions, low humidity, a build-up of vegetation the previous winter, and hurricane-force Santa Ana winds, which in some places have reached 100 miles per hour (160 km/h; 45 m/s). In addition to the causes of the fires, investigators are also blaming insufficient water supplies and pressure at fire hydrants in the Pacific Palisades and nearby water-filling stations.
