Apple security researcher claims the threat of MacOS encryption malware Banshee is exaggerated
Researchers at the cybersecurity company Check Point recently revealed that a new macOS malware, Banshee, successfully evaded antivirus software detection for over two months by borrowing Apple's security tool encryption scheme. Forbes warned that this malware contains "real existing dangers," and the New York Post cited Check Point's report, stating that more than 100 million Apple users could potentially "become victims." However, Patrick Wardle, CEO of endpoint security startup Double You, said in an interview: "There is really nothing special about this particular sample." He believes that this situation may be more hype than threat. Although the malware appears to target "software-based encrypted wallets" and remains concerning, Wardle thinks it has received excessive media attention.
