U.S. Department of Justice Special Prosecutor Jack Smith resigns, previously in charge of cases related to Trump
On January 11 local time, Jack Smith, the special prosecutor in charge of Trump's case at the U.S. Department of Justice, officially resigned from the department on January 10. Jack Smith was appointed as a special prosecutor in November 2022 to investigate two cases involving President-elect Trump. Court documents show that there is ongoing controversy between the Department of Justice and Trump's defense team over the release of an investigation report into actions preventing presidential power transition after Trump's 2020 election. It is reported that Smith has completed his related work and resigned from his position as Special Prosecutor.
