Oklahoma Senator Dusty Deevers has introduced the Bitcoin Freedom Act, a bill that would allow residents and employees in the state to receive salaries in Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) and enable vendors to accept Bitcoin payments.

Deevers emphasised that Bitcoin offers an opportunity to protect earnings and investments in a time when inflation is eroding the purchasing power of the U.S. dollar.

"In a time when inflation is eroding the purchasing power of hard-working Oklahomans, Bitcoin provides a unique opportunity to protect earnings and investments," he stated.

The proposed legislation, SB325, ensures participation is voluntary, respecting free-market principles.

It would allow employees, employers, and businesses to choose Bitcoin as a payment option.

The act aims to create a secure framework for the use of Bitcoin in Oklahoma and authorise its use for transactions, salaries, and investments.

Deevers praised President-elect Trump’s pro-Bitcoin stance and called Bitcoin a significant part of the financial future.

He described the bill as placing Oklahoma in a "leadership role nationally," helping the state embrace the future of financial technology while offering citizens more financial options.

The Bitcoin Freedom Act will be considered during the 60th legislative session, which begins on February 3.

Deevers, a critic of rising inflation and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), voiced concerns over government control and surveillance.

He argued that Bitcoin, with its decentralised and censorship-resistant nature, promotes financial sovereignty and freedom.

The U.S. inflation rate has been climbing since September 2024, reaching 2.7%.

In contrast, Oklahoma's legislative actions have increasingly supported cryptocurrency, including a law that facilitates Bitcoin mining operations.

At the time of reporting, the Bitcoin (BTC) price was $94,347.31.
