AI agents predicted to reshape industries by 2025

Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley has drawn comparisons between the rise of AI agents and the advent of corporations in the 19th century, emphasising their transformative capabilities.

“I think it perfectly parallels to the 19th-century advent of the corporation: able to enter contracts itself, hire humans, own things, and outlive people,” Horsley stated in a Dec. 30 X post.

Horsley noted the initial fear surrounding corporations, which are now an integral part of global economic systems.

“We all work for them, and they produce everything we use and consume. Why won’t AI agents be similar?” he added, predicting a similar trajectory for AI in reshaping industries.

Crypto trader Alex Becker shared a similar sentiment, predicting 2025 as the year of “AI agent/AI fever in all industries.”

These autonomous agents are gaining traction for their ability to build Web3 applications, launch tokens, and engage with users.

AIXBT, an AI agent providing real-time market updates, has garnered significant attention, amassing 246,900 followers since its November launch.

“The potential universe of AI agents interacting with crypto is infinite,” stated Matt Hougan, head of research at Bitwise, commented on their potential.

Recent developments include ai16z (CRYPTO:AI16z), an agentic AI platform exploring the launch of a layer-1 blockchain network.

Over the past month, ai16z’s token surged 371.75%, trading at $1.63 as of Dec. 29.

AI tokens on the Virtuals Protocol (CRYPTO:VIRTUAL) accounted for 12% of decentralised exchange trading volume on the Base network in 2024.

Virtual saw a 6,851% increase this year, reaching $3.46.

Despite the excitement, Real Vision CEO Raoul Pal warned that today’s AI agents are in their infancy.

“I’m not sure what you all think AI agents are, but they aren’t what we are seeing on X currently... In a year or two, you’ll see the difference,” he remarked.
