Opinion: BlackRock’s short film “There is no guarantee that the 21 million BTC supply will not change” is just a general disclaimer
on December 18th, BlackRock released a short film introducing Bitcoin. In the film, there was a subtitle stating that the bank "cannot guarantee that the supply of Bitcoin's 21 million coins will not change". This caused market fluctuations and made Bitcoin supporters uneasy, suspecting that big market players wanted to influence the Bitcoin protocol or implement a "hard fork" to increase the supply of Bitcoin. However, Li Zhiwei, the president of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park's Science and Education Network, said that some market insiders speculated that BlackRock intended to increase the supply of Bitcoin. But in fact, the statement in the film by BlackRock was just a general disclaimer. As a Bitcoin holder, increasing the supply is not beneficial to BlackRock because once the supply of Bitcoin increases, the price of its Bitcoin spot ETF will also drop.
