Google CEO: High stakes and risks in 2025, promoting Gemini is the top priority
Google (GOOG.O) CEO Pichai told employees last week that 2025 is "high risk and high stakes" as the company faces increasing competition, regulatory hurdles, and rapid advancements in artificial intelligence. Pichai stated that "building large new businesses" is a top priority, including the Gemini app. Executives said they believe Gemini will be Google's next app to reach 500 million users.
The company currently has 15 apps that have reached this milestone. Pichai said: "The momentum of the Gemini app is strong, especially in recent months. But we need to do some work in 2025 to close the gap and establish a leading position in this field." He later added: "Next year, promoting Gemini on the consumer side will be our top priority." Additionally, Pichai presented a chart of large language models showing Gemini 1.5 ahead of OpenAI's GPT and other competitors. Pichai said: "I expect some back-and-forth tug-of-war in 2025. I think we will reach state-of-the-art levels." He said: "Historically, you don't always need to be first, but you must execute well and become the best among similar products. I think that's what 2025 means."
