A spokesperson for the OpenSea Foundation responded to rumors of issuing a token: More information will be announced soon
The biggest speculation about the OpenSea token airdrop recently comes from the recent application for an "OpenSea Foundation" filed in the Cayman Islands. Crypto organizations typically create a foundation as an independent entity of their more mature, consumer-facing brand, and historically, these foundations have subsequently become organizational bodies that communicate and facilitate token airdrops. While registering a foundation does not guarantee tokens will follow, other organizations that have recently offered users airdropped tokens have done so through their respective foundations. An OpenSea spokesperson confirmed that the foundation is indeed a registered entity but did not further comment on any association with OpenSea. Previously, an X account using the name OpenSea Foundation posted "ocean enters chat," possibly hinting at the upcoming OCEAN token; this connection became clearer as this account was created in May 2024 and only follows one account on the platform - OpenSea. Both OpenSea and its CEO Devin Finzer interacted with this post through their respective accounts. Although details remain scarce, an OpenSea Foundation spokesperson responded: "More information will be announced soon." (Decrypt)
