Trump appoints former college football player Bo Hines as the executive director of the Presidential Digital Assets Advisory Committee
Trump announces the appointment of two new figures as economic advisors. Among them, former college football player Bo Hines will serve as the executive director of the President's Digital Assets Advisory Committee, which Trump refers to as the "Crypto Council".
Bo Hines was previously nominated by Republicans for North Carolina's 13th congressional district but lost in the general election to his Democratic opponent. Trump had previously appointed David Sacks to handle crypto and artificial intelligence issues at the White House and mentioned in an announcement that Hines would work with Sacks. Trump wrote: "In his new position, Bo will collaborate with David to promote innovation and growth in digital assets while ensuring industry leaders have resources needed for success. They will together create an environment conducive for this industry’s prosperity and continue being a cornerstone of our nation’s technological advancement."
Hines received funding from a PAC supporting cryptocurrency during his 2022 congressional campaign. According to Business Insider, some funds came from former FTX executive Ryan Salame who is currently serving seven-and-a-half years after admitting multiple charges including conspiracy to make illegal political contributions. In addition, earlier last Sunday, Trump appointed former Treasury official Stephen Miran as chairman of his Economic Advisory Committee.
