Remote and Stripe enable USDC payments for contractors
Global payroll provider Remote has partnered with payment service provider Stripe to offer USD Coin (CRYPTO:USDC) payments to contractors across 69 countries.
This service, launched for U.S.-based companies, is an extension of Remote’s capabilities in collaboration with Stripe, aiming to provide faster and more stable payments.
Contractors can now receive payments in USDC via a Base wallet address on Coinbase's layer-2 network, Base, which launched in August 2023.
Remote’s employer clients will pay in U.S. dollars, while contractors will be paid in the stablecoin, USDC, pegged to the U.S. dollar.
The introduction of this payment option reflects growing contractor management needs in the post-COVID era, as businesses shift toward more global hiring models.
“We’re adding a feature that has been highly requested by our customers, enabling them to pay contractors how they prefer, while maintaining the compliance and simplicity Remote is known for,” noted Remote’s co-founder and CEO, Job van der Voort.
USDC allows recipients to store value in U.S. dollars, a stable asset in countries with inflation or economic instability, while Stripe enables near-instant payments without the delays of traditional bank transfers and foreign exchange procedures.
Stripe, which had discontinued crypto payments in 2018, re-entered the crypto space in 2024, offering USDC services.
The partnership with Coinbase, finalised in June, set the foundation for this new offering, and Stripe began facilitating USDC payments in October.
This service provides a seamless, compliant way for U.S. companies to pay global contractors, supporting the growing trend of decentralised, borderless workforces.
