Arizona police have arrested a fake Uber driver on charges of stealing more than $300,000 in cryptocurrency from unwitting passengers. He pretended to be an Uber driver and used to target drunk or distracted individuals.

As per the Fox10Phoenix report , Nuruhussein Hussein, the accused driver, is now on felony charges of theft, fraud and money laundering, Scottsdale Police Department said in a statement.

According to police, the suspect used advanced techniques to access the cryptocurrency applications, by stealing private keys and making unofficial transactions.

After picking up customers, Hussein would ask victims for their mobile phones saying he wanted to look up directions or want to connect the Uber app, and then he used to transfer cryptocurrency from the victim’s digital wallet to his own digital wallet.

The victims were not even able to realize that their money was missing, and this suspect had already sent the cryptocurrency to wallets that were undetectable.

The suspect has been locked up in Maricopa County Jail and both police and the Secret Service are continuing their investigation. He has been charged with two counts of money laundering, two counts of fraudulent schemes, and two counts of theft. As per reports, He will appear in court for a bond hearing again on Dec. 18.
