Greenpeace suffers defeat in campaign against Bitcoin mining

Blockchain analyst Daniel Batten said that the Greenpeace office in the US has stopped campaigning against Bitcoin mining. According to him, for six months now, the office representatives have not published any press releases or social media posts related to the fight against Bitcoin mining.

The expert noted that no other international division of Greenpeace publicly supported the initiative of the American office, and its director Josh Archer even left his post and is now working on a new project related to the protection of forests in the country.

Other environmental groups such as Sierra Club, Earthjustice and EWG have not written about Bitcoin mining on social media for over a year, the analyst said. For Greenpeace in the US, it was a painful campaign that they completely lost, wasting millions of dollars, he said.

Another negative effect for the organization was the fact that many millennials and representatives of Generation Z turned away from it, the expert emphasizes.

The reason for the failure of the advertising campaign against Bitcoin mining was the arguments that the asset is harmful to the environment due to the reopening of fossil fuel power plants. These statements did not find the expected response from the audience, Batten concluded.
