MicroStrategy invests another $1,5 billion in Bitcoin, increasing its holdings to $45 billion
MicroStrategy, a pioneer in the institutional adoption of Bitcoin , has just announced a new acquisition of 15.350 Bitcoins, bringing its holdings to a total of 439 BTC. The recent purchase was revealed in a document 8-K that was filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) today, December 16.
The financial giant has acquired another 15.350 BTC, investing approximately $1,5 billion at an average price of $100.386. This purchase, made between December 9 and 15, demonstrates the company’s commitment to the world’s largest cryptocurrency and cements its position as the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin.
To fund this acquisition, MicroStrategy sold more than 3,8 million of its shares. The company still has approximately $7,65 billion worth of shares available for sale as part of a larger fundraising plan for future Bitcoin purchases.
With the latest purchase, the company’s holdings have been increased to 439.000 BTC, worth over $45 billion. The company’s co-founder and executive chairman, Michael Saylor, reported that MicroStrategy's total holdings were acquired at an average of $61.725 per bitcoin, for a total cost of approximately $27,1 billion.
With this new acquisition, MicroStrategy demonstrates its confidence in the future of Bitcoin and reinforces its position as a leading advocate for the cryptocurrency. The company hopes that its example will inspire other companies to follow in its footsteps and adopt Bitcoin as part of their investment strategies.
It is worth remembering that recently, MicroStrategy, the company that has invested the most in Bitcoin, took a giant step into the world of traditional finance. This Friday, December 13, the company came in officially joins the prestigious Nasdaq 100 index, placing it alongside technology giants such as Apple, Microsoft and Amazon.
