The former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin, suggests studying the pilot acceptance of Bitcoin payments in tourist areas
According to a report by Thai media Moneyandbanking, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra attended a seminar for the "Enhancement of Potential Program for Parliamentarians and Politicians" organized by the Thai Party. Mr. Thaksin stated: "The Prime Minister may assign the Ministry of Finance to study whether to accept Bitcoin. Can we use sandboxes in tourist areas like Phuket or Hua Hin? Use Bitcoin, let those who hold Bitcoin spend it.
Mr. Thaksin also said that another interesting issue is stablecoins, the prime minister might ask the Ministry of Finance to study if it's possible without printing any banknotes, inject funds into the economic system through issuing coins supported by government bonds, in order to keep money circulating in the economy.
