Bitget explores Lithuania hub for MiCA compliance
Bitget is considering establishing a new regional hub in Lithuania to enhance its compliance with the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation and strengthen its presence in Europe.
The exchange is currently pursuing regulatory approval in 15 countries while operating under existing licenses in several EU nations.
The potential hub in Lithuania would focus on recruiting personnel dedicated to compliance and operations, reflecting Bitget's commitment to regulatory standards.
“Our vision for Europe goes beyond business expansion. [It] is at the forefront of the crypto revolution, and we are committed to contributing to its growing ecosystem of crypto startups,” stated Hon Ng, Bitget’s Chief Legal Officer.
The MiCA framework represents a significant regulatory development for the cryptocurrency industry in the EU.
Companies like Revolut X are leveraging this opportunity to expand their European operations, while others, such as Tether, are scaling back amid regulatory uncertainties.
If Bitget successfully navigates the MiCA requirements, it could gain a competitive advantage in the market.
However, challenges remain, as demonstrated by a recent rebuke from Japanese regulators due to improper registration practices.
Such setbacks highlight the risks associated with regulatory compliance, and a dedicated regional hub may help mitigate these concerns.
Despite these challenges, Bitget's BGB token recently reached a new all-time high, indicating positive market sentiment and continued momentum for the exchange.
While the press release contained noncommittal language regarding the establishment of the Lithuanian hub, it emphasized that Bitget is actively preparing for MiCA compliance and taking proactive steps toward meeting regulatory standards.
