A special commission will begin working in the Irkutsk region, which should strengthen the fight against illegal miners.
At an operational meeting chaired by the Chairman of the Regional Government, Konstantin Zaitsev, it was reported that the new body would include representatives of the local prosecutor's office, the Federal Tax Service (FTS), as well as energy workers and officials from the regional Ministry of Housing Policy.
The commission will be engaged in identifying illegal miners and mining infrastructure operators working without government permission. In addition, the commission will be engaged in adapting and implementing changes to legislation to regional conditions in order to facilitate the work of companies operating in the legal field.
The Irkutsk region is one of the most popular among miners, as it has low electricity tariffs. There are also a large number of so-called "gray" miners in the region, who illegally connect cryptocurrency mining equipment to power grids without paying for the electricity consumed.
With the help of the new commission, the regional authorities hope to eradicate “gray” miners, forcing them to compensate for their losses.
Let us recall that from December 1 of this year, restrictions were introduced for cryptocurrency miners in the Irkutsk region for the winter period in order to avoid overloading the power grid and subsequent outages.
