Donald Trump Officially Nominates Paul Atkins as the SEC Chair
President-elect Donald Trump has officially nominated Paul Atkins as next SEC Chairman. This was confirmed via a statement posted on Trump’s Truth X account. Atkins is set to replace outgoing Chair Gary Gensler, who will depart on January 20.
“Paul is a proven leader for common-sense regulations,” Trump said in the statement. “He believes in the promise of robust, innovative capital markets that are responsive to the needs of investors and that provide capital to make our economy the best in the world. He also recognizes that digital assets and other innovations are crucial to Making America Greater than Ever Before.”
Atkins was the SEC commissioner for 6 years during George W. Bush time as the US President, known for his market-friendly approach to regulation. He is expected to rescue the burden on crypto regulation and prioritise the growth of the U.S. financial market.
Tyler Gellasch, the President of the Healthy Markets Association, described Atkins as “the godfather of conservative capital markets ideology and mentor to a generation of policymakers.” He added, “it’s hard to imagine a more connected and capable leader to scale back the SEC and its rules.”
