Mnuchin and Pompeo will not join Trump's new administration, and it remains to be seen whether Lighthizer will stay
According to a report from international media, Steven Mnuchin, who served as the Treasury Secretary during Trump's first term as president, said that he will not join the new Trump administration but is willing to provide advice on how to strengthen sanctions against Iran and Russia and control the growth of US debt. Mnuchin said in an interview that the US Treasury Department must work hard to strengthen its trade policy. Mnuchin refused to disclose the popular candidates for Treasury Secretary. Earlier, Trump also said that his then-Secretary of State Pompeo would not join the cabinet. As for whether Robert Lighthizer, the current trade representative, will be invited to continue in that position, international media reports are conflicting.
