The report stated that Bakari Sellers, who served as a Democratic member of the South Carolina House of Representatives for eight years, said that 70-year-old liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor could retire from the Supreme Court so President Biden can nominate Harris. Before being elected senator and then vice president, Harris had served as district attorney for San Francisco and Attorney General for California. Although it is uncommon to elect someone without judicial experience into the Supreme Court, it is not unprecedented.
