EthOS introduces dGEN1 hardware device for Ethereum onchain interactions
Quick Take Ethereum-based operating system ethOS has introduced dGEN1, a hardware device optimized for onchain dapp interactions. The device features an operating system based on LineageOS, featuring a native Nimbus light client.
Ethereum-based operating system ethOS has introduced dGEN1, a hardware device for engaging with onchain dapps and running a light client.
Described by the company as “the first onchain everyday carry,” dGEN1 includes a browser and a built-in wallet. It also features a specialized screen that shows transaction notifications and metadata during network interactions.
Derived from LineageOS and a fork of Android, ethOS integrates a native Nimbus light client to ensure that users’ data is verified when using onchain dapps without relying on trusted third-party RPCs, the firm said. The built-in ethOS browser supports IPFS and .eth domains.
The dGEN1 device is available for preorders by minting an NFT on the Base Layer 2 network for 0.2 ETH ($520). The company expects to ship the devices by the second quarter of 2025. According to Basescan, about 630 users currently hold the NFT.
According to the website , device owners will receive an airdrop reward upon delivery of the dGEN1. Each owner will be entitled to an equal share of the airdrop pool.
Notably, dGEN1 follows the widely popular blockchain-focused devices from Solana Mobile, starting with Saga. Solana’s second phone model, Seeker, received over 140,000 pre-orders in 57 countries and is scheduled to begin shipping in mid-2025, The Block reported.
However, unlike the Solana devices, dGEN1 appears not to include telecom capabilities and is designed specifically for interacting with Ethereum.
