Ubisoft is making an entry in the world of Web 3 gaming with its upcoming release Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles. The game is set to release for PC on October 23rd, 2024. As a Web 3 game, it utilizes the layer 2 network, Home Verse within Oasys gaming network.
In Champion Tactics players will experience the dark fantasy world of Grimoria. In this strategic RPG game, players will build their teams with mythical Champions to engage in PvP battles.
There are a total of 75,000 NFTs available in the game referred to as Champions. Each digital collectible comes with its unique skills and powers for tactile team building.
Players can generate new Champions themselves by mixing the traits of the ones they own.
The game also includes a crafting system called The Forge. This tool enables the players to forge their new mythical creatures by combining the abilities of the ones they already own.
This will make the team of each player more dynamic with a personalized and unique gaming experience.
Ryo Matsubara, the representative director of Oasys has stated that the launch of Champions Tactics will not only raise the bar for Web 3 games but also reestablish the appeal of the brand of Ubisoft.
Will the Ubisoft Web 3 Gaming venture turn out positive for the company?
Currently, the market of Web 3 gaming seems to be doing well as the Telegram game Hamster Kombat has attracted the attention of millions of users since it promises to earn token rewards.

Therefore, while Ubisoft is struggling with satisfying its fanbase and looking for ways to keep the company afloat amid the stock plunge, this new venture could become a hope of light for the company.
Ubisoft entered the blockchain NFT market in 2021 with Ubisoft Quartz as the platform to allow players to claim digital collectibles of the items to be used in games. However, it had to face some skepticism since the requirements were too hard to match.
As for Champions Tactic, the VP of Ubisoft Strategic Innovation Lab has shared that the company’s goal for Web 3 technologies is to “seamlessly face into the background, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in the fun and strategy of the game”.
According to Ubisoft, the trial test for the game is already bringing in positive feedback. Moreover, the game has already built a community with over 100k followers on X and 50,000 Discord users.
